Jannik Sinner has announced that he will not be participating in the 2026 US Open.

On Friday (August 21), the 25-year-old Italian tennis star revealed that he is withdrawing from the upcoming tennis tournament due to a knee injury.

“Even though I have been working hard with my team and my medical staff, we have now had to make the difficult decision that I will not be able to compete at the US Open this year,” Sinner began on Instagram. “We have been back on court in Monte Carlo over the last couple of days and have realised that I still need more time to recover from my right knee issue.”

“I’m obviously very sad and disappointed, as New York has a special place in my heart,” he continued. “I was very much looking forward to coming back and playing in the electric atmosphere in front of the great fans there.”

Sinner, who is the world’s No. 1 ranked tennis player, has been dealing with the injury for the past several weeks. Earlier this month, he also withdrew from the Cincinnati Open, stating his “right knee has been bothering me.”

He last won the US Open in 2024. He captured his fifth Grand Slam singles title in July when he won Wimbledon.

The 2026 US Open begins on Sunday, August 30.
