The FBI arrested three people for allegedly robbing the homes of multiple athletes in the U.S. and Argentina between 2024 and 2025, including Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes.
Authorities from Chile confirmed the news on Monday (May 24).
Three suspects were arrested in Chile
The robbers are accused of taking “expensive watches, valuable jewelry and souvenirs including sports jerseys,” according to the BBC.
Two were arrested last week after breaking into the home of 2009 US Open winner Juan Martín del Potro, which led to the arrest of a third suspect on Saturday (May 23).
Commissioner Enrique Gutierrez said the three would be extradited.
“These individuals will face justice in the United States or Argentina. They had no significant criminal record in Chile, having specialised in robberies outside our borders,” he said.
Authorities say the suspects targeted athletes while they were away
The burglars are accused of monitoring athletes’ social media presence to see when they were out of town, as well as analyzing the security of their homes.
Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes were reportedly targeted
Travis‘ home was reportedly broken into on October 7, 2024. He was playing an away game at the time, and reportedly lost over $20,000 in cash.
Dallas Cowboys player Linval Joseph and Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis were also reportedly targeted. The NFL even issued a warning to players at the time.
Patrick‘s home was also broken into, and was said to be part of a larger international crime ring, with the criminals targeting professional athletes. See what Patrick said about his home being burglarized.
Last year, seven purported members of a South American theft group were charged.
