There’s an exciting new update on the 10 Things I Hate About You musical!
First announced in April 2025, the upcoming musical features a book by Lena Dunham and Jessica Huang, with music and lyrics by Carly Rae Jepsen and Ethan Gruska.
What is 10 Things I Hate About You about?
10 Things I Hate About You takes us back to the halls of Padua High. Amid the crushes, cliques, and teenage angst, two sisters set out to define themselves on their own terms. This rebellious new musical is about growing up, discovering yourself, and refusing to live by others’ expectations.
The upcoming musical will be directed and choreographed by two-time Tony Award-winning Christopher Wheeldon, who most recently directed and choreographed MJ the Musical.
10 Things I Hate About You, the musical, is slated to begin performances on Broadway on August 17, 2027.
At this time, casting, additional creative team, and theater information are not available and will be announced at a later date.
10 Things I Hate About You is a take on William Shakespeare’s 1594 play The Taming of the Shrew, and the 1999 movie was a box office hit, remaining a classic film to this day.
The late Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles lead the cast of the movie, alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt, David Krumholtz, Larisa Oleynik, Larry Miller, Andrew Keegan, Allison Janney, Gabrielle Union, and more.
