Rosie O’Donnell is opening up about a cosmetic procedure she quietly underwent earlier this year.
The 64-year-old actress revealed that she had a lower deep plane facelift in January 2026, despite previously considering herself someone who would never undergo cosmetic surgery.
In a Substack post published on Monday (May 25), Rosie shared details about the procedure, which she said “cost more money than I have ever paid for a car.”
Rosie admitted that she once felt “very strongly about facelifts” because she feared getting one would be “a betrayal. Of feminism. Of aging. Of our team of women worldwide.”
However, Rosie said her perspective shifted after losing 50 pounds.
After beginning her research into facelifts, Rosie recalled her 13-year-old daughter, Clay, finding out her plans and advising against it. According to Rosie, Clay told her that “young women look up to you” and that she “wouldn’t be able to respect” her mother if she went through with the procedure.
“I want them to grow up in a world where they don’t feel like they have to change but also knows they can, if they want to, without losing moral standing in their own life,” Rosie wrote.
Despite those concerns, the SMILF star ultimately decided to move forward with the facelift. At the same time, she was careful not to develop what she described as an ongoing obsession with cosmetic procedures.
“I didn’t want to become that voice—the one that keeps moving the goalpost, never satisfied, the one that turns their own face into a problem. One can never quite solve. I wanted a limit,” she added.
Perhaps the biggest surprise for Rosie was that almost no one seemed to notice the results.
“Not one person. Not a friend, not a stranger, not even people who owe me compliments. My teen daughter, has not said a word. Nothing. I went through a full existential feminist crisis, had my face and neck surgically altered, and the result is… zippo.”
Still, Rosie said she is at peace with her decision as she reflects on this chapter of her life.
“As I get ready for the last day of school with my youngest – the caboose, here at 64 years old with a new lower face and neck, just happy to be alive. Able to feel and choose and use my voice whenever I feel called to,” she wrote. “For the girl I was. The woman I am. And all those joining my ranks as we carry on in act 3. This is me.”
