Jonas Brothers are officially back with new music with their new single, “Listen When Sad.”
The sibling trio – Nick, Joe, and Kevin – dropped the studio version of the song at midnight on Friday (August 28) after debuting the track during their Madison Square Garden shows the week before.
Nick, Joe, and Kevin teamed back up with John Fields, who produced their earlier albums. The foursome co-wrote the track with frequent collaborators Paris Carney and their longtime drummer, Jack Lawless, as well as JP Saxe and Tommy English.
They sing in the chorus, “Do you remember the summer she gave you her number? / On the back of that CD that she burned last spring, ‘Listen when sad and then call me’ / We’d leave through the windows, we knew things we still don’t / Singing Taking Back Sunday on the way back home, just sixteen, we felt so old.”

The brothers revealed the scoop in an Instagram post after the song debuted on streaming.

“There’s something special about going back to one of the most pivotal eras in our musical journey. Our brand new single ‘Listen When Sad’ reunites us with longtime producer John Fields in the studio for the first time since 2009; channeling the emo and alternative influences we grew up on. To us, it feels like a piece of our heritage channeled through who we are today, and we couldn’t be more excited for you to hear it,” they previously shared of the song.
“The new single reflects a deliberate return to the sound that started it all,” the band’s label teased.
