David Bromstad is celebrating his 53rd birthday with a reflection on his journey to sobriety.
The HGTV star shared a photo carousel on Instagram on Saturday (August 22) that included a bunch of pics and video clips of him out with friends as they celebrated the special day in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
“Another trip around the sun and the gratitude is enormous,” David wrote, before talking about “an incredible year of building, reflection, authentic connections, celebration and pure magic.”
David is the longtime host of My Lottery Dream House on the home design cable channel. He also won the first season of HGTV Design Star in 2006.
Speaking to his sobriety, he wrote, “Sobriety has brought the most yummy life I was always meant to live,” sharing how great it feels to be 53 and “loving every part and version of myself.”
“The friends I have cultivated because of that clarity has been authentically delicious,” David continued.
He then gave a shoutout to his friends along with photos of being with them on the trip, his cake, bike rides, and a beach day.
David has previously discussed his substance use and recovery
David has spoken publicly about turning to substances while dealing with the stressful reconstruction of his Florida dream home after it was severely damaged by a storm. It contributed to a challenging period documented in My Lottery Dream Home: David’s Happy Ending.
He took time away, entered a treatment program, and later returned to complete the house. Back in June, he said that special was “probably the first and last time I’ll be designing in front of America.”
David has said he is thrilled with how the home turned out and does not picture himself moving or taking on another major redesign anytime soon.
