It’s a Mexican pop diva dream come true: DANNA and Belinda are teaming up.
The superstars joined forces on the dreamy “Dolce Vita,” their long-teased collaboration out on Friday (August 28), which is featured on DANNA‘s newly released EP, WET DREAMS.
Ahead of the song’s release, DANNA opened up to i-D about the making of the song.
On working with Belinda and comparisons…
“For years, people have always compared us to one another. But our collaboration is all about joining forces and shining together…Belinda was always on my mind, from the creation of the song to the video.”
On the inspiration behind “Dolce Vita”…
“The stage of life we’re both going through right now, feeling self-aware, empowered, fabulous and flirty, the movie La Dolce Vita, Italo disco, and Malèna, of course are also part of the inspiration,” she said.
On the meaning of “Dolce Vita”…
“To live feeling whole, being aware of who I am and what I want to continue building and experiencing in my life, to love deeply, to build my dream life every day, and to put myself first, always!”
On filming the music video…
“We filmed the video on the day of Mexico’s last World Cup game, and we had everything ready so we wouldn’t miss a thing between takes. With the nerves, the excitement, and the nearly 200 people on set watching it, it was an incredible yet difficult experience, seeing Mexico get eliminated from the World Cup. We continued filming the rest of the video, which still had a lot left to shoot, with our emotions running high!”
On their success and their LGBTQ+ following…
“I don’t take this for granted at all. Moments like these take some time to build and grow, and getting to the point of being recognized worldwide has been a dream of mine for very long. The love my music and Belinda’s has received has been very special, and being able to come together at this point in our careers is very meaningful for both of us. The support from the LGBTQ+ community has always held a special place in my heart. Their unwavering support is an inspiration as I continue to grow as an artist.
