Derms Say This Summer Skincare Reset Is Essential

If you need to switch out products from your skincare routine this summer,  Dr. Zeichner recommends opting for a new cleanser and moisturizer. Oh, and don’t forget the sunscreen! If your skin gets oilier in the heat, he says to forget the hydrating cleanser and pick up a new foaming one.

“Hydrating cleansers may not be enough to remove excess oil in the summer months. If you’re acne-prone, consider using a cleanser that contains salicylic acid in the summertime,” he said. “Think of it as a pipe cleaner that helps keep the pores clear and prevents blockages that lead to pimples”

For moisturizer, don’t use the same one you use during the winter. Instead, choose a moisturizer with a lightweight, gel-like formula that still hydrates without the heavy texture. “Heavier creams or balms may weigh down the skin during more humid months,” Dr. Zeichner said.

The last thing? You need sunscreen this summer. Dr. Zeichner suggested wearing SPF on a daily basis, regardless of the sun’s UV rays, but especially during the hotter months. “If you use only one product this summer, it should be sunscreen. UV light exposure from the sun is the single largest factor that leads to both premature aging and skin cancers,” he told E!.
