Although friends and family rallied around her, the “I Feel Everything” singer shared that music is what gave her a much-needed wake up call.
“Music at that moment really saved me,” she continued. “A song came on shuffle when I was alone in a hotel room and it was a song that was played at a friend’s funeral who died of an overdose. That’s the thing when you’re in that position where you can try to end your life or not and it was such a quick flip.”
As she recalled, “It was like, ‘What am I doing?’ Why am I doing this? I can’t believe I am in this place.’ And I threw all the drugs down the toilet.”
Of course, Cara admitted it was also meeting her girlfriend of now four years, Minke (real name Leah Mason).
“We went to school together and from the moment we re–met after school I was like, ‘F–k, you make me feel safe,’” she revealed. “And that is something I haven’t felt and I am way more terrified of that that I’ve ever been of love because in that moment I was like, ‘Oh no, I’m starting to realize how bad this is.’”
Immediately, Cara noted her girlfriend was part of her healing journey.
“I was honest with her from the first get-go,” she noted. “I was like, ‘I have a problem.’”
