Brandon Clarke‘s cause of death has been confirmed.
The 29-year-old Memphis Grizzlies forward died from the effects of heroin and cocaine, authorities revealed on Friday (August 7), per AP News.
“The County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner (DME) determined the cause and manner of death for 29-year-old professional basketball player Brandon Clarke as the effects of heroin and cocaine,” the office said in a statement obtained by People. “The manner of death is accident.”
About six weeks before he passed, Brandon was arrested in Arkansas on charges of reckless driving, speeding, and possessing a controlled substance.
He was found unresponsive inside a home near Los Angeles in May 2026 pronounced dead 15 minutes after the medical examiner arrived. A person familiar with the investigation told AP drug paraphernalia was found at the residence.
If you don’t know, Brandon‘s NBA career started in 2019 when he was drafter 21st overall in the 2019 NBA draft to the Oklahoma City Thunder. After this, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.
For the current season, he had been facing numerous injuries. He was under contract for the Grizzlies through the 2026-27 season.
