Ryan Gosling is setting a new box office record with Project Hail Mary.
The 45-year-old actor’s sci-fi movie just opened at the box office, and brought in over $80.5 million in its opening weekend.

That is the biggest opening ever for an Amazon MGM movie, surpassing 2023′s Creed III which opened at $58 million, per Variety.
It’s also the biggest debut of 2026 so far, beating Scream 7‘s $63 million opening.
The movie had been projected to open around $65 million. It cost about $200 million to produce and millions more to market, per Variety.
The movie also has stellar reviews, with a 95% Fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes and a 96% audience score.
Here’s the synopsis: “Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction… but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.” Watch the trailer above!
