Elizabeth Banks celebrated the amount of female directing nominees at the Emmys this year, only for the award to go to the one man nominated in the category.

The Pitch Perfect actress was there to present Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the 2025 Emmy Awards on Sunday (September 14) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Philip Barantini, who definitely was extremely deserving of the win, picked up the award for directing Netflix’s Adolescence.

The other five nominees in the category were all women: Shannon Murphy for Dying for Sex, Helen Shaver for The Penguin, Jennifer Getzinger for The Penguin, Nicole Kassell for Sirens, and Lesli Linka Glatter for Zero Day.

One person wrote on Twitter, “Elizabeth Banks making the whole intro to that Emmys category about how women are never nominated for it just for the sole male nominee to end up winning 2 seconds later.”
