Tim Curry was never married nor had any children.
The actor, best known for starring in the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, passed away at his home on Tuesday (August 25) at the age of 80.
Throughout his life, while the late actor was in the spotlight, he kept his private life guarded.
In his 2025 book, “Vagabond: A Memoir,” Tim offered a brief response to those hoping to find out more about his personal life in the introduction.
“I guarantee you, if it matters, that I have experienced true love, true heartbreak and everything in between, including no small amount of wreckage. Which, naturally, helps inform who I am. I have loved and been loved and I hope you have, too. But I’m not interested in your romances,” the actor wrote.
“And specifics about my affairs of the heart or the bedroom are — respectfully– none of your f–king business,” he added.
Later on in the book, he further shared why he didn’t want to speak out about his personal life.
Tim said he didn’t like the “part of show business that deems your personal life public property,” and admitted that he “repelled” the idea of self-promotion from the beginning of his career.
“I mean, it’s all very well when you’re happy, but it can be extremely nasty when you’re not. And I frankly don’t think it’s anybody’s business. I disagree with anybody who believes that you are depriving people from enjoying a production if you don’t bare your soul to the public while you’re taking on a role,” he said.
The actor admitted he understood why interviews were a necessary part of the job, but he found the idea “intrusive.”
“The biggest drawback is if people become really rabid fans, then learn about you and suddenly think they’ve bonded with you or — in the worst extremes — that they sort of own you,” Tim wrote. “Then you have to disabuse them of the fact, by saying something like, ‘I’m just a person, and I’m not your person.’ Which is rude, I suppose, but has proven necessary on occasion.”
