The Westies Season 1 is coming to an end tonight (Sunday, August 23).

The show airs on MGM+ at 9 p.m. ET.

Here’s a synopsis of the series:

The Westies is a gritty and kinetic crime drama centering on New York City’s infamously violent Irish gang of the same name. The series is set in the early 1980s when the construction of the Jacob Javits Convention Center on the Westies’ home turf in Hell’s Kitchen promises a financial windfall.  Despite being outnumbered fifty-to-one by the Five Families of the Italian Mafia, the Westies’ legendary brutality and cunning have given them the leverage necessary to share the spoils through a fragile détente.  But internal conflict between the brash younger generation and the old-school leadership threatens to set a match to this powder keg, which will sweep the Westies into the FBI’s ever-deepening investigation into the Italian mafia.

What happens in the Season 1 finale of The Westies?

In the Season 1 finale, Roarke and Sweeney’s fallout splits the Westies, pitting old guard against young, while Bridget pushes ahead with the mission but faces shattering truths, and Keenan wrestles with guilt and a son slipping away.

Fans are now eagerly wondering if the show will get a second season.

Is there going to be a second season of The Westies?

The show has not yet been formally renewed or cancelled at MGM+. However, the show’s creators Chris Brancato and Michael Panes made it clear that they hope to continue on for more seasons.

“One of the hardest things is to make the audience root for criminals. How do you do that? You put them in opposition to forces that are, frankly, even worse, so we’re rooting for the Westies to defeat the Italians and defeat the cops. Hopefully we’ve accomplished that and have made a show that people will want to watch for multiple seasons,” Chris explained to Deadline.

He added: “I’m not at liberty to discuss what is coming up next, but we definitely have shows in the offing and we’re very confident there will be a second season of The Westies.”

“Stay tuned for Season 2. It gets even crazier,” added Michael.

It commands a promising 78% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 71% audience score. Find out what the critics said!
