Sara Bareilles will be releasing her documentary Good Grief in theaters next month, just days after she drops her new album of the same name.

The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter premiered the documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year and now it will be playing in more than 35 cities across the United States. The film will open in theaters on September 2 and a list of venues can be found here.

The film “offers an intimate, unfiltered portrait of Bareilles’ return to the recording studio with close friends for the first time in seven years—a cinematic document of her creative process that becomes a profoundly personal, ultimately hopeful meditation on loss, grief and the power of music to heal. A masterclass in creativity, community and vulnerability, the documentary serves as a reminder of music’s extraordinary power to connect us to ourselves and to each other.”

“The film intimately captures the making of what has turned out to be my most vulnerable and personal project to date, and I’m so proud to share it,” Sara said in a statement. “It feels like a sister piece to the album, something that makes the music richer and deeper. We held nothing back, and I’m so proud of the honesty, art, confessions, and connections that live inside this film. It has ultimately made me feel closer to my fans, my friends, and myself.”

Sara will be releasing her album Good Grief on August 28 and she will hit the road for a headlining tour in the fall.

Watch the music video for “Still Crying” featuring the cast of her former TV show Girls5eva.
