Sen. Mitch McConnell is sharing a new health update.
On Thursday (August 6), the 84-year-old Kentucky Senator released a statement, revealing that he has been discharged from a rehabilitation center where he was recovering after a 53-day hospitalization following a serious fall at his home in Washington, DC.
“Earlier today, I was discharged from the rehabilitation center to continue my recovery at home,” McConnell shared, per CNN.
“[Wife] Elaine [Chao] and I are grateful for the many well wishes and support from friends, colleagues, and Kentuckians, and for the attentive care I’ve received from excellent doctors, nurses, therapists, and hospital staff,” he continued.
“On the advice of my doctors, I’ll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and I’ll continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business,” McConnell concluded.
McConnell was first admitted into the hospital back on June 14 and there have been a lot of rumors surrounding his health. At one point, some reports alleged that he was brain dead.
On July 12, he released a statement about his health, sharing, “My doctors have confirmed that I didn’t break any bones or suffer a concussion. I didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke. I don’t have any tumors or hemorrhages. But I was briefly unconscious and was taken to the hospital. While receiving excellent care over the past several weeks, I’ve also had to deal with a mild case of pneumonia.”
He also included a photo of himself and his wife Elaine in the hospital, but many questioned the authenticity of the photo, believing that it might have been AI-generated. Digital forensics expert then investigated the photo, concluding that it was real.
