Kylie Cantrall just released her new EP, Valley Girl Problems, and one song has garnered a lot of attention.
Fresh off the press tour for her new movie Descendants: Wicked Wonderland with co-stars Liamani Segura and Malia Baker, the 21-year-old singer and actress dropped the EP, and the closing track, “Space Between,” is about a friendship breakup.
“Oh, I want you to know that it’s killing me / ‘Cause you went and threw it all away for what? / Now there’s always gonna be a boy-sized space between us / You did the worst thing you could do to me / And I don’t think you really ?ven care that much / Now ther?’s always gonna be a boy-sized space between us,” Kylie sings in the chorus.
Following the song’s release, fans have been theorizing and decoding who it’s about, but Kylie has not confirmed the subject.

While promoting her new EP, Kylie opened up about tackling her real-life problems while writing the music.
“It’s so crazy because I had an original idea for what the album was gonna be,” she told People. “I had a title, I had a whole concept. It’s gonna be super fun, baddie dance anthems. And all this s— in my personal life started happening, and I was like, ‘You know, I actually wanna write sad songs.’”
On “Space Between,” she sings about a devastating friendship breakup after learning that a close friend was dating her ex, but she tells People she would never “name any sort of names or say that it’s about anyone specific.” This, of course, hasn’t stopped fans from drawing conclusions.
“It was really inspired because I had a ballad that I sang on tour last year that was also called ‘Space Between,’” she said, referencing the Descendants 2 song she performed on the 2025 Worlds Collide Tour with Malia Baker.
“That moment was so special in the show because the whole arena got silent,” Kylie told People. “Everyone connected and got in their feels and put their flashlights on. Just the impact of that moment every night was the highlight of the show for me. So I knew going into writing this project, I wanted to have a ballad. I wanted to have that sort of moment created in my show where everyone could just have this beautiful, silent bonding moment. It’s probably one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written.”
“I was a mess in the studio when I was writing it and recording it, especially because all the emotions were so raw and happening in real time,” she added. “The processing of losing someone who was very special to me.”
Previously, Kylie said she wrote this album “like a diary.”
“The lyrics are honest and vulnerable because I dug into my personal life and didn’t shy away from the messy parts (even my very public love triangle),” she told Galore. “That particular situation unraveled while in the midst of writing so naturally there will be songs that reflect the hurt and betrayal.”
