George Clooney‘s wife Amal is sharing some very rare comments about her personal life.
During a recent appearance at a Cartier Dialogues event in Bangkok,. the 48-year-old human rights lawyer looked back at what her life was like before falling in love with the 65-year-old Oscar-winning actor.
“It was easier when I could decide what kind of exposure I got,” Amal said, per People. “It was something new to navigate.”
“I used to have my work life and my personal life, and they could look quite different,” she continued, “and I was able to not have them mix… and then I got married and that changed quite a lot.”
When Amal and George first met in 2013, she said that there was little reprieve from the cameras when they were out in public, and she admitted that was a lot for her to get used to.
“At first I was kind of conscious of that one-dimensional view where I felt like, well, I can’t be seen wearing this dress or doing this because I’m in front of a judge on Monday,” she recalled. “But you know it just doesn’t matter as much as living your life, and, ultimately, if you’re good at what you do, that is going to shine through or not.”
Amal added that she didn’t allow her self-consciousness to keep her from “doing things that were important for my family or for my relationship.”
George and Amal ended up getting married in 2014 and they now live on a farm in France with their 9-year-old twins Alexander and Ella.
In an interview from last year, Amal spoke about her partnership with George and protecting her privacy.
