The A24 movie, directed by Lance Oppenheim, arrives in theaters this fall. (A release date has not yet been set.) Ahead of its release, the production company dropped the first teaser on Wednesday (May 27), featuring Robert Pattinson starring as To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen.
The Dateline NBC reality TV show featured the host confronting adult men arriving at a sting house expecting to have sex with a minor, with adults impersonating the minors in online chats. The subjects were usually arrested afterward.
“What would have happened if I wasn’t here? You see how this looks, right? At the end of the day, a man must be held accountable for the decisions that he makes. Would you agree? Do you watch television? Well, there’s something you should know. I’m Chris Hansen with Dateline NBC, and you’re able to be a part of television history,” he’s heard saying as hidden camera-style footage and brief scenes from the film play from various screens.
The movie stars Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Matthew Maher, Bokeem Woodbine and Phoebe Bridgers. Watch the teaser above.
Chris Hansen himself also faced some legal trouble years ago.
