Lola Young is making her return to music.
The 25-year-old “Messy” singer released her new single “From Down Here” on Friday (May 22) following a string of live show cancellations amid her recovery.
Lola got candid in an interview regarding her health back in March, following a long break after an on-stage collapse and opening up about her addiction struggles.
With her new song, created with James Blake, Jameela Jamil and Dom Maker, Lola is addressing missing “a high,” and being “stuck in-between.”
“The day after I won a grammy, I felt high, not the usual kind of high that I was used to feeling, a new kind of high, a pure, organic kind. The real thing. I hadn’t felt it in so long. It was something I didn’t know I had lost, but f–k, I had missed it so much,” she explained of the song’s meaning on Instagram.
“I got in the studio with @jamesblake @jameelajamil @dom_maker (i love you James) and it poured out of me, it happens like that sometimes, and that day, it really f–king did. I wanted to frame how it feels to miss a high, a high from anything, and suddenly being stuck in-between a feeling, not knowing that quite how to move or dance or sit in that feeling, but still knowing that it is safer there somehow, it is safer being on the ground.”
“‘From Down Here’ doesn’t symbolise being a definitive place of sadness, it simply shows that joy and pain can exist within the same space, at the same time. I hope anyone who hears this song feels understood and seen in whatever way that may be. I am re writing the next chapter of my story with this song, because what a boring book the old one would’ve been anyway. I am back, I am well, and I love you all Enjoy x,” she concluded.
Days later, Lola Young performed “From Down Here” live at Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2026 in Sunderland, England.
