Margaret Qualley had ‘instant’ chemistry with Aubrey Plaza in Honey Don’t!

Margaret Qualley has said she had “instant” chemistry with co-actress Aubrey Plaza in upcoming lesbian comedy Honey Don’t!

Qualley, who previously shared that she channelled The 1975 frontman Matty Healy for her role as a queer detective in anticipated comedy, has opened up about finding “instant” chemistry with Plaza. 

The Substance actress plays protagonist Honey in the film, a lesbian detective investigating a suspicious church and potential cult. Captain America star Chris Evans plays cult leader, Priest Dean, while The White Lotus actress Plaza stars as a very ominous “mystery woman”.

During an interview with Deadline, Qualley said in response to her chemistry with Plaza: “For me it felt really instant. I’ve loved her from afar for a really long time, and I was so excited to be able to work with her, and I feel really lucky that we have the connection that we do. She’s the best.” 

Directed by Oscar-winner Ethan Coen, the new film follows Honey investigating a possible cult. Police officer MG Falcone (Agatha All Along‘s Aubrey Plaza) joins her as the investigation leads to a series of strange deaths tied to a mysterious church.

When asked whether she realised she had a “big queer fan base”, Qualley replied: “I love the gays, thank you.”

Speaking about the on-screen romance between Honey and MG, Plaza said: “It’s a soul-mate kind of love, a dangerous love.”

Honey Don’t! is the second film in a “lesbian B-movie trilogy”, following on from Drive-Away Dolls, and is due to open in the UK on 22 August.
