The couple first met as kids in Bible camp at age 10, and she even journaled about him in her diary (noting he was not boyfriend material because he was two years younger!), and would send each other fun things like “pictures and doodles” via fax machine.
They drifted apart over the years until reconnecting briefly on Facebook, and then Marcus saw her on a billboard promoting a movie.
“I saw her on a billboard for An Education, and went and saw it,” he said of the 2009 film.
The two met up again after she came to visit him in Nashville amid work on the band’s second album, Babel.
“A friend of mine in LA who’d I been staying with had gone to New York, seen her, called me, and was like, ‘We’re gonna come to Nashville and see you play this basement show.’ They arrive. At the airport… I was stood outside the Starbucks and I could see them come out. And she runs down and jumps into my arms. It was like…‘Game over,’” he recalled.
“When we reconnected it was like, ‘Oh, I know you. You’re exactly who I know.’ And it was cool. I think [we got married quickly] because of that.”
The two got married in 2012, and share daughter Evelyn Grace, 10, another daughter born in 2023, and son Wilfred, 8. Watch him explain above!
The couple also just went to a star-studded party in support of Connor Storrie!
