Maulik Pancholy has joined the cast of the Broadway musical Schmigadoon, reuniting him with 30 Rock producer Lorne Michaels!
The musical is a stage adaptation of the Apple TV series of the same name, which followed two New York doctors who set out on a couples’ backpacking retreat to rekindle the flame, but instead find themselves in Schmigadoon, a magical town that’s a Golden Age musical come to life. The townspeople won’t stop singing, the bridge out leads nowhere, and the only way to escape is by finding true love—which may or may not be with each other.
Alex Brightman and Sara Chase are starring as Josh Skinner and Melissa Gimble, the roles portrayed by Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong on the series.
Maulik will be playing The Reverend, the mild-mannered religious leader of the town. The role was played by Fred Armisen on the TV Show.
Also starring in the musical are Ana Gasteyer as Mildred Layton, McKenzie Kurtz as Betsy, Max Clayton as Danny Bailey, Isabelle McCalla as Emma Tate, Ann Harada as Florence Melove, Brad Oscar as Mayor Menlove, Ivan Hernandez as Doc, and Ayaan Diop as Carson.
